Recognizing Relationship Violence in Youth
Over 1/5th of charges laid by Police are related to domestic violence. It is estimated that 1 in 3 girls will be a victim of Emotional, Physical or Sexual abuse in their lifetimes. Unfortunately, domestic violence does not start with adults - often teenage girls are victimized by their boyfriends throughout their high school years.
This informative and enlightening workshop helps educators, school counselors, school administrators and parents understand the importance of early identification and intervention of relationship violence in schools.
Topics include:
- Defining relationship violence in youth
- Distinguishing between Emotional, Physical and Sexual violence
- Moral and legal responsibilities of educators on when to report and intervene
- Dispelling the myths related to the Cycle vs. Continuum of violence
- Using a holistic approach to reduce relationship violence in your school
Participants will have the opportunity to ask questions and will receive a handout with a referral page identifying other helping agencies within their community.
